At "Let's set the Record Straight" -a HINZ Seminar, on July 8th there was universal agreement that setting in place a widely accessible shared electronic patient record (EPR) available to multiple healthcare providers should be a key priority for the New Zealand health sector. There were varying viewpoints expressed as to how a shared electronic health record should be developed. In "Linking Systems to Strategy" the second of four seminars planned on this topic (culminating in development of a draft plan) we will 'go back to the fundamentals:
- How is the New Zealand Health system going to operate over the next two decades?
- What are the unshakeable facts – what can we do and not do in terms of privacy and security constraints?
- What are the options? What are their pros and cons?
Health Informatics New Zealand invites you to attend its third quarterly seminar of 2008. Attendees will be asked to step up to address this challenge and work together with people from across the sector to critically examine this complex and challenging issue and develop a 'Go Forward' plan. Understanding healthcare strategy sufficiently clearly to develop a systems plan in response is an essential next step. Successfully implementing a trusted, shared electronic health record holds greater potential to improve healthcare delivery in the 21st century than any other single innovation. Let's agree upon how we do it and get on with it.
In the first part of this seminar New Zealand healthcare leaders will be invited to share their plans for healthcare delivery over the next two decades. We will then take a careful sweep of the options for developing a shared electronic patient record for the New Zealand environment. Both parts will consist of a series of presentations followed by a panel discussion
Seminar attendees will be encouraged to take an active part in the proceedings and all attendees will be sent a briefing document prior to the seminar.
