Bringing the Electronic Health Record to Life

We are proud to announce that we have secured Ed Hammond
as the keynote speaker. This seminar is sure to attract significant
attendance given the involvement of such a high profile international health informatics leader.

The morning sessions will be on Health Informatics Science and Applications, with a focus on EHR, interoperability and translational research.

The afternoon sessions will be tutorials covering standards and implementation approaches which will be important for future systems interconnectivity, in line with the newly developed Reference Architecture for Interoperability.

A new way of stimulating systemic Health IT change is currently taking hold with some spectacular results.

Until recently the US, like most other countries, approached the implementation of health IT by commissioning and funding projects, then looking for ways in which successful projects could be scaled
up and replicated across the country. At the 2011 Conference we heard from Dr David Blumenthal, Architect of ‘Meaningful Use’,
and the new way in which health sector automation is being approached.

Telehealth - A Call to arms

Why is there so much growth in the use of telehealth throughout the world? What is happening here in New Zealand? How can sustainable telehealth services deliver better, sooner, more convenient health care for New Zealanders?

This symposium will cover progress and opportunities in telemonitoring and home monitoring services, especially for those with long term conditions, and how New Zealanders are benefiting from videoconferencing services in the North and South Islands. We’ll cover the latest developments in Australia and opportunities for Australasian collaboration. We’ll hear from the Forum’s sponsor, the National Health IT Board, on the fit with shared care strategies and maximising the benefits of the government’s broadband programme to support rural populations and clinical networks.

This symposium has been endorsed by The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners

For the past year, Health Informatics New Zealand (HINZ) has been endeavouring to stimulate debate re the development of a national electronic health records strategy. Development of a viable information sharing strategy is becoming more and more important to the New Zealand health sector. On one hand the pressure on the system to develop safe, reliable and easy to use mechanisms for sharing patient information is mounting. On the other hand we are becoming more and more aware of the complexities and challenges of doing so.
