Telehealth - Where are we Heading?

Where: Wellington Convention Centre
New Zealand’s health sector is beginning to change the way health services are delivered and how the population receive those services. Our final seminar for 2009 will look at how telehealth is being used as a tool for providing access to health information and treatment for a dispersed population. What direction could New Zealand move over the next few years regarding the national policy for telehealth, the methodologies for treating of patients remotely, lessons learned from current projects, and what is happening in Australia and internationally.

For the past year, Health Informatics New Zealand (HINZ) has been endeavouring to stimulate debate re the development of a national electronic health records strategy. Development of a viable information sharing strategy is becoming more and more important to the New Zealand health sector. On one hand the pressure on the system to develop safe, reliable and easy to use mechanisms for sharing patient information is mounting. On the other hand we are becoming more and more aware of the complexities and challenges of doing so.
