All papers will be double-blind peer reviewed and published in the Conference proceedings.
Authors of the highest quality papers will be invited to expand and update their work for inclusion in HINZ 's journal, Health Care Informatics Review Online.
Papers on which the first author is a student will also be eligible for the Best Student Paper award.
Innovation in practice papers
For 2011 HINZ will trial a new paper category that is very much focused on action, implementation, and practical aspects of Health Informatics for the New Zealand healthcare sector. We would like to invite people who are developing, implementing, using, or evaluating innovative ideas or technologies to consider submitting papers for the Innovation in Practice (IiP) track.
IiP papers should describe a Health Informatics initiative that is new or may be particularly interesting for a HINZ audience. Accepted papers will be presented as part of the IiP track at the conference. Each paper will have 20 mins of presentation time and 10 mins of questions.
As a guideline, IiP papers should include:
- Abstract
- Introduction
- Clinical problem/ requirements
- Implementation/design
- Evaluation
- Comparison with other approaches
- Lessons learned
HINZ strongly encourages joint authorship with clinical partners on IiP papers, and expects that all or part of the paper would be presented by an end-user or clinical partner.
Advertising or purely descriptive papers will not be accepted, although the SPC is prepared to assist authors of such papers to develop their work for a HINZ audience.
IIP papers will be assessed on:
- Clinical importance
- Innovation
- Quality of evaluation
- Comparison with other approaches
- Clarity of expression
- Likely interest to a HINZ audience
Posters
The conference will include a scheduled poster session.
Poster presenters must submit an Abstract, and will be expected to be available to talk about their poster at the scheduled session.
Details of poster sizes and formats will be provided to accepted authors.
Workshops
The morning of November 23rd will be available for workshops.
Potential workshop organisers should submit a workshop proposal to admin@hinz.org.nz, including:
- Workshop title
- Subject area(s)
- Likely audience
- Organiser and presenter details
