Single instance of DXC’s webPAS in Central Region

Some years ago, former health minister Tony Ryall expressed New Zealand’s national vision to use information technology as a key enabler to support person-centred integrated care.

From there a plan was developed which included the objective to have a single Patient Administration System (PAS) for each region, and thus a single shared health record for each person. Recently, the first step in realising this was achieved, in the central regional with Whanganui, Wairarapa and MidCentral DHBs all going live on a single instance of DXC’s webPAS. The three successful implementations occurred over a short space of time – 11 weeks from December to February – with no downtime experienced while the second and third DHBs migrated over.

Through this shared system, hospital staff can now access patient information across the three DHBs – a New Zealand first, which is a great leap forward towards achieving high quality, efficient and patient-centred care. The smooth transition for clinical and business stakeholders was the result of a newly developed approach to partnering for outcomes between the Central Region DHBs, DXC and Central TAS.
