Elsevier Clinical Solutions Thought Leadership Roundtable

You are invited to a special presentation and discussion, hosted by Dr Peter Edelstein, Chief Medical Officer for Elsevier Clinical Solutions and Dr Robert Dunlop, Clinical Director of Infermed.
In order for healthcare professionals to deliver consistent, high quality, cost-effective care, whilst ensuring patient needs remain at the core across every stage of the patient journey, we need to address the broad, varying, and complex challenges in today's rapidly changing healthcare world.  And one of the greatest threat to our patients is the unbelievable rate at which our medical knowledge is growing. Biomedical knowledge is currently doubling every 3 years, and is expected to double every 73 days by 2020.  It is an enormous challenge for healthcare providers and patients to keep current with credible, evidence-based approaches to care. The result is significant variability in the care provided patients not just across the globe, but even within the same hospital, which is a well-recognised cause of poor quality, higher costs and increased numbers of adverse events.
How can we empower patients and providers to keep up with the best evidence based approaches to patient care?  How can we reduce the variability that represents a constant threat to our patients’ safety and welfare?
Dr Edelstein will be able to share some of the insight gained from experience as a cancer surgeon, entrepreneur and medical device executive, hospital Chief Medical Officer, healthcare system executive and now Chief Medical Officer for Elsevier, where he meets with our many healthcare partners and government agencies across the globe to better understand how global organisations and policy makers are addressing these challenges.  Robert has an extensive clinical background in general internal medicine and palliative care, has practical experience in the development and implementation EHRs and has significant expertise in the development of clinical decision support applications. Together, they will be able share international perspectives on addressing the challenges of reducing variability in care and empowering patients to own their care.
