Nominations to the Health Information Strategy Action Committee Print E-mail
The Minister of Health is seeking nominations and applications for appointments to the Health Information Strategy Action Committee (HISAC).  Your organisation is invited to forward nominations and to invite interested individuals to apply.

The Committee is established under section 11 of the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act (2000). The role of the Committee is to provide governance, oversight and leadership for the implementation of the Health Information Strategy for New Zealand 2005 -1010 to the health and disability sector.  The Strategy is about the health and disability sector using information in innovative ways to improve the health and independence of New Zealanders.

HISAC also has three sub-committees:
-        Infrastructure (including Privacy, Authentication and Security)
-        Health Information Standards
-        National Collections

There is an immediate requirement for two appointees who bring specific knowledge and understanding of the Non-government Organisations (NGO) sector and of consumer perspectives on health informatics.  The Minister is also seeking nominations for a number of positions that are due to become vacant in the coming months as current terms expire.

To be eligible, nominees will need to have the requisite skills to assist the work of HISAC. To fulfil this requirement, nominees will either hold or will have held positions of influence within the health and disability sector, will have demonstrable leadership, oversight and governance skills and experience and have the ability to work collaboratively towards overall sector solutions, while bringing specific perspectives to the work of the committee.

A contestable process of appointment will be conducted for these positions. Current members whose terms expire may be nominated for reappointment.  Nominations must be accompanied by a current curriculum vitae and a completed Statutory Bodies Application Form for each nominee.  Interested individuals and organisations are also invited to nominate potential  candidates for consideration via a letter of support in writing.

Attached please find the candidate information document that sets out the terms and conditions of appointment.  Appointments are made by the Minister of Health and are for a period of two years.  The Committee meets at least five times a year in Wellington. Also attached is a copy of the Ministry of Health’s Statutory Bodies Application Form. Alternatively, nominees may wish to complete the on-line application form (and attach their CV), which can be found at:
