Health Leaders Conference

The conference will be held at Te Papa, Wellington, 2 - 4 May 2007, and will be attended by major business, community, health sector leaders and decision-makers. It will be an opportunity to exchange ideas, examine collaboration opportunities and build upon respective expertise and strengths across the public and private sectors. Some of the key themes include:

Ø The importance of a full sector-wide approach for future sustainability of the health system.

Ø Strong recognition of the need for explicit public/private partnerships and a fresh approach to funding and service provision.

Ø Opportunities for collaboration across public/private and NGO sectors.

Ø Taking a more effective and efficient approach to healthcare, based on research, evidence and information.

One of the many speakers approached to speak at conference is keynote speaker, Nick Bosanquet is Professor of Health Policy at Imperial College, London. He is a health economist who first carried out research on NHS funding in the 1980's for the York Reports sponsored by the British Medical Association, the Royal College of Nursing and the Institute for Health Services Management. He has been Special Adviser on public expenditure to the Commons Health Committee since 2000. He is a non-Executive Director of a Primary Care Trust in London, is currently working with Professor Karol Sikora in developing public/private partnership in cancer services.

This initiative has been supported by the Ministry of Health and a range of national health leaders who see this event as an extremely positive way of moving forward in addressing the issues facing the public and private health sectors.
