Towards a Healthy Nation
Population Health -  Primary Care - Workforce management

HINZ Conference and exhibition 2004
Tuesday 27th - Thursday 29th July Wellington Convention Centre

Information Technology is transforming the direction and shape of organisations in the health sector. A challenge for health informatics - given available medical knowledge and resources - is to understand information technologies and methods, and develop and apply them to support the optimum care for patients at all times.

The prime objective of the 2004 conference of Health Informatics New Zealand (HINZ) is to provide participants with the latest information which will assist decision making and eventually lead Towards a Healthy Nation. The conference brings together international and local speakers, in workshops, keynote addresses and concurrent sessions that will address this years focus on Population Health, Primary Care and Workforce Management, among other worthwhile topics. The interactive Technical Exhibition and Cyber Cafe will be the biggest yet.  Can you really afford to not to be there?

In addition this year will see a first in HINZ conferences where there is a special Women in Technology workshop. This workshop will look at the skills nurses have and how they transfer through into IT. The skills required and the benefits to be gained through networking. The workshop is kindly being hosted by Women in Technology. For more information - http://www.womenintechnology.co.nz/ Also - NURSES come and learn and hear what other nurses are doing in health informatics. There are specific workshops aimed at nurses who are novices, or advanced beginners in informatics. Even those who consider themselves more proficient might appreciate a refresher of key concepts. The Nursing Informatics: Electronic Health Records and Nurses workshop will cover some main principles, while exploring the impact of the EHR for nurses. This is followed by a Project Management workshop for nurses, as many nurses enter informatics through being involved in a project. A number of papers will be offered in the concurrent sessions that highlight the work and roles nurses are assuming in the informatics arena.
